Obituary

James Flavell, a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 66 years old.

Born on August 16, 1958, to Edward Flavell and Nancy Vasold, James grew up in a household filled with brotherhood, humor, and love. As the brother to Philip and George Flavell, he carried that same sense of closeness and camaraderie into every relationship he formed.

James was a light in every room he entered. His unique ability to create a safe, welcoming space for others made him a friend to everyone who was lucky enough to meet him. Wildly comfortable in his own skin, he encouraged those around him to embrace their authentic selves. His humor, wisdom, and warmth will be deeply missed.

A passionate lover of music, James found inspiration and joy in the melodies of Elton John, The Beatles, Kenny Chesney, and above all, his favorite, Jimmy Buffett. His life was filled with the rhythms of the world around him, whether it was the strum of a guitar, the lapping of waves on a boat, or the quiet swish of a golf club mid-swing. He loved scuba diving, boating, golfing, and biking, but above all else, he found joy in encouraging and supporting his sons in there individual pursuits of music and business.

James was endlessly proud of his children, Malcolm and Marshall, and took every opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments and share their stories. His enduring love for his wife, Leslie, was the foundation of a family filled with laughter and love.

He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, childlike joy, and authenticity that will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Leslie, his sons Malcolm and Marshall, his incredible family, and a community of friends who will forever feel his loss and tell his story, with a smile never far behind.

A celebration of James's life will be held on November 22, 2 PM, at First Presbyterian Church, 401 SE. 15th Ave., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33305

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Phillip Flavell-Austin White endowment, at First Presbyterian Church in honor of James and his brother Philip, who passed at a young age.

James Flavell's light will continue to shine through the lives he touched and the music that brought him so much joy. Rest in peace, James—you will be forever missed.
